Leeds International Film Festival: Story of Night

November 5, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

This film is part of Leeds International Film Festival. It is shown alongside the Abandoned Yorkshire Photography Exhibition, after the doors have closed to the public for viewing.

Story of Night is the first of Clemens Klopfenstein’s Night Films (Nachtfilme), odes to the eerie beauty of the urban landscape after dark, made in the late 70s when city dwellers were moving out into the suburbs. Shot over 150 nights in cities across Europe, from Istanbul to Dublin, and from Helsinki to Rome, this mesmerising and sometimes dreamlike tableaux of sounds and images is a poetic meditation on silence, civilisation, and perhaps even life itself. Story of Night is a rediscovered masterpiece with haunting images that linger int he memory. Screening from a newly restored print.
