Talking Histories | Canals & Waterways
July 20, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm£4 - £5
Join us for an evening with the founder of Canal Connections, Trevor Roberts as he shares his passion for the waterways, focusing on the longest single waterway canal in Britain – the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Last year was a celebration of 200 years since this canal was completed. As part of the bicentenary activities, Trevor has been involved in various projects and initiatives with the Canal & River Trust.
“Our waterways never stop moving, and we never stop working to help them thrive.” Canal & River Trust
Parts of Leeds waterfront were once almost derelict. This informal evening is the perfect opportunity to find out more about what is being done to preserve and restore our incredible waterway so it can be enjoyed for years to come.
Trevor’s talk will cover the Heritage Canal Zone, which is the section of the canal from Armley Mills to Thwaite Mills. He’ll be showing us inspiring examples of work from this project and sharing aspirations for the future of the project.
Tickets are £5/£4 (concession) +booking fee. Places are limited so please buy your tickets online via Eventbrite.
This is part of a series of monthly talks run by Left Bank Leeds that will explore the history of the buildings and people of Leeds from the monks of the 12th century through to present day. These events are part of a larger project celebrating the heritage of our amazing building. They have been made possible with thanks to the support from Heritage Lottery Fund.
