Left Bank Cinema: The Whale Rider
March 27 @ 8:00 pm - 9:40 pm
Maori legend talks of Paikea, the founder of the Whangara tribe, who first arrived at the shore riding on the back of a whale. Ever since, the firstborn boy in the Whangara lineage of chiefs is considered a direct descendent and becomes the tribe’s leader. But when Chief Koro’s first grandson arrives stillborn, with a twin sister Pai who survives, both Pai and her community face a challenge.
