Porch Gallery Exhibition: Here Be Whales
February 6 @ 10:00 am - March 27 @ 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 10:00am on Monday and Wednesday, repeating until March 27, 2019
Encompassing drawing, sculpture, collage, texture and video pieces, Here Be Whales reflects on and challenges the representations of whales in our art and culture. It aims to uncover how these portrayals articulate the creatures’ damaged past, threatened present and speculative future.
You can drop in to view this exhibition free of charge each each Monday and Wednesday between 6 February and 27 March from 10am-5pm. On Wednesdays, the main space is also open for viewing and co-working. We’re hosting an opening event for Here Be Whales on 6 February, where you’ll have the opportunity to speak to the artists involved and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine.
If you’d like to dive deeper into this topic, the curators will speak at a special Talking Arts event on Wednesday 27 March. Following the talk, you can contemplate the themes raised at our Left Bank Cinema showing of The Whale Rider.
All money raised through this event supports the development of Left Bank Leeds Charitable Trust, (charity no. 1146734).
Please note, we take photos at our events for marketing purposes. If you would prefer not to appear in our images, it is your responsibility to speak to a member of staff at the event, in order to seek out the photographer and inform them of your wishes.
