Boost your fitness, strength, coordination and confidence with a workout class
Hula hooping is a great cardiovascular workout, but it can benefit more than just your body. Relax your mind at this fun, freeing class – the meditative movements can help to reduce stress, encourage creativity and build confidence. Teacher Poppy’s sessions are suitable for all fitness levels and all ages.
If you haven’t yet found a form of exercise that you enjoy or are motivated to do, then hula hooping might be the thing for you. We recommend buying the full class pass to get the most out of the sessions – plus you get a little discount on the weekly price.
Each class will feature a warm up and cool down to protect your muscles. Warmups will focus on the specific body parts you’ll be using the most in that particular week, finishing with some calm stretching inspired by yoga and meditation practice.
Remember, you’ll need to wear sports clothes and bring a bottle of water.
Week 1 – Abs and arms
Master the art of waist hooping! You’ll start to feel the movement of the hoop and let your waist push it around. See if you can put your hands inside without touching the hoop, and learn how to bring the hoop up and down your body.
The same rules apply to any part of your body, so then you’ll try moving your arms or hands up and down. Once you have that, you’ll learn to bring your arm in and out, or move the hoop around in a big circle to make a flower pattern.
Yes, all these moves make a dance routine…let’s give it a go!
Doubles! Try the same hand and arms moves with two hoops for a grand finale.
Week 2 – Balance and coordination
This week’s hoop routine will focus on isolations, balances, body rolls and hand tricks.
Week 3 – Quadriceps and calves
Get creative with hoop squats, knee hooping, wedges, foot hooping and leg hooping!
Week 4 – Hoop dance and disco!
Celebrate your progress with a fun hoop dance, choreographed to incorporate all the tricks you’ve learned, with opportunity to add your own groove and style.
More about Poppy:
Poppy is passionate about the joy that hula hooping can bring, as well as its impact on physical health. She has toured internationally, performing in circus shows and delivering workshops to bring this playful activity to more people. She says: ‘Hula hooping has improved my strength, balance, coordination. As a child, I was clumsy and creative, with little interest in PE. Never did I think I would eventually be teaching a fitness programme. Hula hooping is my passion, it keeps me fit, strong and flexible, but most importantly happy!’
