Exhibition Launch | Apocalypse Remix (OWLS vs Edek)

Join us during this weeks Culture Club for a every special Exhibition launch in our Porch Gallery! This new display is an exhibition of work created by the members of OWLS over a seven-week period with local community artist Edek Thompson during their weekly Art Classes here at Left Bank. These post apocalyptic warrior guardians take inspiration from Edek’s work and were created using scrap paper and card, paints and pencils, and other materials often left lying around at home or thrown away.

Everyone is welcome to come down and show support for our amazing creative OWLS community, our Café Bar will be open through out the evening for refreshments and drinks while you chat away to the featured artists!

OWLS work to reduce loneliness and social isolation for seniors living in Burley, Hyde Park, Little Woodhouse, Headingley and Kirkstall. They help them to stay healthy and independent and enjoy life to the fullest.

Whether it’s arranging social events, helping people meet each other, assisting with the weekly shop or just a voice at the other end of the phone - they're here to help.

If you want additional information on joining OWLS or volunteering please fill out the contact form and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Edek is a Leeds based community artist, who paints the apocalypse one dog, pigeon or crow at a time. Creating fun and disturbing images of a future ravaged by climate change, he imagines a world full of mutations and strange adaptations, where duck feet and waterproofs will aid survival in a new lifetime underwater. Edek's artwork is helping to create a future mythology, a way to remember and document the things around us for when they are no longer there.

Sustainability and accessibility are key factors in Edek’s work and inform his material choices. Edek uses found and donated materials, household emulsions rescued from landfill, boards from building sites and vinyl from sign shop bins, along with the stuff people usually have lying around at home like pens, pencils and crayons. Using these materials and working from reference photos that he has taken himself, Edek hope his creations can help to spread a little joy and optimism at the end of the world.
